Kingdom Disciple by Tony Evans - Book Review

If you've read my reviews before, then you know that I love reading Tony Evans books.  They are so practical and full of great nuggets of truth.  To be honest, I think I like them because they remind me of one of my favorite books of the Bible, Proverbs.  With Proverbs, you can pick it up, turn to any chapter, any verse and find something that will help you.  With Tony Evans, you really don't have to read the whole book or even the whole chapter.  You can pick up pretty much anything he writes and turn anywhere in the book and find a line or paragraph that will just jump of the page.
For instance, I randomly picked up this book, opened it up and found this thought:   "What too many believers have done is put a portion of their time, talents, and treasures on God's altar and assumed it is enough.  It is not.  God wants all of you to be given to Him."
Or how about this one:   "True worship is not simply singing songs on Sunday.  True worship...is giving yourself to God in your entirety.  True worship includes surrender."
I think a good way to  sum up what is found in this book is this quote from the chapter on Family:  "A Kingdom disciple is one who surrenders every area of his life to the lordship of Jesus Christ."
If your looking for a how to transform people's lives in 3 steps, this isn't your book.  But if you are looking for a book that will dig down deep into the issues of what truly make a disciple of Jesus, then this is the book for you.  It's full of great illustrations, stories, and personal experience.  But most of all, it's full of Biblical truth about the fact that being a disciple of Jesus is more than just words, it's about taking up your cross and following Jesus.
I would like to thank Moody Publishing for the opportunity to review this book.  They put out great material that is good for preachers, teachers, and anyone else interested in learning more about God.  So go out and buy their stuff.  I guarantee that it will help you in your walk with God.

God Bless,

Marcus
